Baseball Canes To Play at SunTrust Park
The Monticello Hurricanes varsity baseball squad will play amongst the opulence of the SunTrust Park Stadium tomorrow, April 6 beginning at 4 p.m. against region opponent Lamar County.
Head coach Chris Jenkins said when the team was approached about the opportunity to play in the new stadium he jumped at the chance noting that high school teams don’t often get the opportunity to play on major league fields for regular competition.
Hopefully, the team will find some better luck than they have been having lately coming off of losses to Elbert County last Friday and Luella on Monday.
Against Elbert, the team fell 12-2 and 11-1 in doubleheader action. Braden Lynch and Hunter Duke shared mound duties in the second game. Lynch also had three quality at bats (QABs) while Mac Barton had one walk. In game two, Baylor Edge and Matt Cain pitched with Edge and Barton each earning a hit. Trent Maddox and Lynch each earned a walk.
Against Luella, the Canes fell 5-2. Cole Hays and Barton shared duties on the mound. Duke had two QABs and Edge had two walks.
The varsity squad was to play Luella and Ola in McDonough Wednesday prior to Friday’s big event in Marietta.
