America Strickland Wins Talent Contest

America Strickland, competing in the ninth through 12th grade class, took first place honors at the Monticello Civic Club Talent and Art Showcase last Friday evening. Miss Strickland played the guitar and sang Who Am I? Second place in the senior division went to Broox Shannon who played Bohemian Rhapsody on the piano, and third went to Sara Wingham singing DNA

.

In the middle school category, Kate Schilling won first place playing Waves of Fury on the piano. Second went to Joshua Manning who sang Jesus Is Love. Third place went to the band of Owen Walls, Charlie Trawick, Isabella Waddell, Aaron Wiles and Justin Mathis which played Heart & Soul

.

In the youngest class, first place was awarded to Caroline Savage for playing Shadow Chasing Fireflies on the piano, and her sister, Kinley Savage took third playing Pirates at Sea on the piano. Second place went to Ryker Harty who played Minuet No. 2 on the violin.

The artwork winners in the senior division included James Gaither, III, first place, Hayley Lanier, second place, and Mari Jablonski, third. In the middle school divisions, winners included Evelyn Atkinson, first, Bayleigh Blalock, second, and Karen Lara, third.

In the youngest division, Leigha Perkins took first place; Kate Brooks placed second, and Caroline Savage placed third.

Stone Workman emceed the 37th annual talent showcase, and Monticello Civil Club president Les Steele welcomed the crowd.

Money raised in the talent show will be returned to the community to various organizations which serve the children of Jasper County.

Other talent participants included (grades kindergarnet-fifth) Madison Miller, Faraday Harty, Lane Mason, Jaxon Lynn, Krista Steele, Alexi Tillman, Hadley Hodges and Brooklyn West, Xavier Adams, and Riley Holland.

For the midde school, Naomi Griffis and Lorilei Fowler presented a comedy routine.

Other senior level entrants included Ryan Henderson, Will McElheney, Kerri Smith, J.K. Strength, and Tyler Aldridge.
