Soccer Canes Post A Win

By AUSTIN LINK

The varsity boys’ soccer team has had an exciting past two weeks of soccer and posted one win and three losses.

On February 23, the Canes went up against Elbert County in a region game with Kevin Ortiz scoring three goals and Jovani Gonzalez scoring one for a 4-2 victory. Then the varsity played Jackson High on February 27 at home and took a tough loss 2-0, but the boys did not let that get to their heads and they got ready for their next game.

The boys had another region game against Banks County on March 9 which was one of the best games to see as the first half went by with the score 0-0. Jovani Gonzalez scored a goal and not much later Banks scored for a tie. The boys lost in penalty kicks 5-4 but played their hearts out and gave it their all.

The junior varsity (JV) soccer boys have also had a great season going 2-0-2. The boys are undefeated! On February 28, the JV boys went up against Baldwin County boys and won 2-1 as Austin Link and Alfredo Torres both led the team to a victory.

On March 5, the JV boys took on Lamar County at home and ended up tying the game. Torres and Ethan Proctor both scored.

On March 7, the JV boys took on Monroe Area, winning 7-0 with Ortiz scoring two goals and Torres, Link, Proctor, Wesley Brooks, and Estavan Vera all scoring once.

On March 12, the boys went on the road to face Lamar and it ended in a tie as Vera scored one goal.

Next up for the varsity Canes will be a competition hosting Rabun Friday, March 16 and a road game at Griffin, Tuesday, March 20. The girls play at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

The JV squads will play Monday, March 19 at Jackson and at Monroe on Wednesday, March 21 with the girls playing at 5:30 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m. both days.
