One School Board Seat Is Contested

Incumbent Lewis Rice and Challenger Misty Ledford will vie for the District 5 School Board seat in the pri election to be held May 22.

For District 3, Dr. Shannon Barton is unopposed as is Towonder Dennis in District 1.

For county commission, there are no contested races. Incumbent Bruce Henry qualified for his seat on District 2 as did Craig Salmon for his seat in District 4. They aer both running as Republicans.

Also on the ballot in May will be numerous statewide offices, from governor on down. State Rep. Susan Holmes is seeking re-election and is unopposed.

Jasper County voters will also decide whether to extend the current Eduction Local Option Sales Tax (ELOST) to fund renovations and modifications at each of the schools, to purchase or improvement technology access/equipment, purchase school buses, acquire new land, purchase band instruments and other items, and to fund an athletic complex at Jasper County High School.

One round of the sales tax will not pay off all the debt,. in order to pay off the 2018 bond, voters will be asked to approve additional ELOST measures in future years.
