Cougar Hoops Begin Region Tourney
Piedmont Academy’s varsity basketball teams began play in the region tournament Tuesday in Macon.
The boys earned a 67-35 win against Monsignor Donovan while the Lady Cougars suffered a disappointing 39-38 loss to Thomas Jefferson.
The boys were paced by Bradley Greenwood who scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers. Caden Clark added nine points while Dylan Clark scored eight.
The Lady Cougars fell just short of advancing despite 13 points from Madison McCart and 10 from Alexis Dodson and Haley Ann Frank.
The Lady Cougars have been involved in several games lately including Friday’s 35-29 loss to Briarwood. Dodson led the team with 12 points while Frank added eight and McCart finished with six. Sydney Stroud also scored three points.
The previous night saw the Piedmont girls step out of region play and earn a 45-25 road win against Loganville Christian Academy. In a balanced scoring attack, Dodson led the team with 10 points followed by McCart with eight and Gracie Hunt and Frank with six each.
Jayden Young added five points while Lucy Tuggle and Deacon Robinson both scored four points. Hannah Tyler scored two points in the win.
On Feb. 6 the Lady Cougars were involved in another close game this time at Windsor. Piedmont fell 50-48 despite 18 points by McCart and 14 points from Dodson. Hunt and Frank both added seven points.
Piedmont’s varsity boys fell to Briarwood 66-44. Sam Wright led the Cougars with 15 points. Tate Marks added seven with Ryan Holder scoring five and Bradley Greenwood finishing with four.
Piedmont fell to LCA 87-65 despite having three players in double figures. Wright finished with 15 points while Greenwood scored 13 and Marks added 11. Holder finished with six points and Caleb Coffey and Payton Wallace both scored five.
In an 85-46 loss against Windsor, Marks led the Cougars with 12 points while Dylan Coe scored nine. Wallace finished with six.
