Putnam outscored the Lady Canes by 13 points in the third quarter from which they did not recover.
The varsity Canes had the same results as their female counterparts. Defeating Elbert 66-43 pushed the squad’s region record to 4-3 following the 48-44 close loss to Putnam Saturday.
With five games remaining in the regular season leading into the region playoffs, the varsity squad will need to finish strong as most of the games are region competitions. Weather permitting, the squads are scheduled to host Banks County tomorrow, Jan. 19 with the junior varsity boys beginning at 4:30 p.m. and varsity at 6 p.m. Banks boys’ squad is ranked first in the 8AA region and is looking to repeat as region champs.
