Henry Carson Pope, Jr.

Henry Carson Pope, Jr., age 80, of Haddock, passed away Saturday, Dec. 30, 2017, at his residence.

Henry Pope was born in Baxley, Ga., to the late Henry Carson Pope, Sr. and Minnie Lee Lord Pope. He was also preceded in death by son, Jeffrey Carson Pope; sisters, Louise Ziegler and Elizabeth Pallas; and brothers, James Pope and Carroll “Buddy” Tedder.

Henry retired after 34 years as a civil engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was known for his cakes that he shared with family and friends; and was a Waffle House regular.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Frances Avant Pope of Haddock; daughter, Vicki (Kevin) Hopper of Haddock; grandchildren, Josh (Jordan Stevens) Allaben of Brunswick, Nicole Hopper, Megan Hopper and Carson Hopper of Haddock and Amber Hopper of Round Oak; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Allaben, Caroline Allaben and Ryleigh Hopper; and sisters and brother, Mildred (Travis) Yeomans of Savannah, Carolyn (Johnny) Greene of Quitman, Patricia (Alvin) Carlton of Moultrie and Fred (Ann) Tedder of Macon.

A graveside service was to be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2018, at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens in Macon. Rev. Ted Tedder and Dr. Ron McClung were to officiate.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to Haddock Baptist Church 180 Ethridge Road, Haddock, Ga. 31033; or the Loraine Dumas Outreach Ministry, 150 Sugar Hill Road, Hillsboro, Ga. 31038.
