James ‘Jimmy’ Lindsey Atkins,
Funeral services for James “Jimmy” Lindsey Atkins, 63, of Enid, Oklahoma, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at the Enid Maine Church of The Nazarene, with internment following in Enid Cemetery. Reverends Jerald Bushman and Thomas Pullin will officiate.
Jimmy Atkins was born on June 9, 1954 in Eatonton, Georgia, to Jesse Frank Atkins, Jr. and Thelma (Mae) Hawkins Atkins.
He grew up on a dairy and commercial chicken farm in Jasper County, Georgia, and graduated from Piedmont Academy in Monticello. He began his own local cash crop and property acquisition business at an early age and continued related entrepreneurial activities throughout his life. Jimmy also worked as a carpenter and a long-haul truck driver, and continued to work intermittently in the carpentry trade for the states of Oklahoma and Georgia.
He professed his faith in Christ in 2009 and attended church services faithfully, engaging in community service outreach programs to share his love of God with people who were incarcerated.
He was preceded in passing by his parents and brother, Jesse Frank Atkins, III.
Jimmy is survived by his sister, Phyllis Atkins Jones (Spike Jones) of Georgia and brother, David Atkins (Charlotte Atkins) of Arkansas, two children, and other relatives and friends.
