Football Contest Just Gets Tougher

LAURA TYLER (L), JACOB PARRISH

It was a really tough football contest week last week, with many upsets, and only four players getting as many as 11 right. And, the one who was closest to the tie-breaker and the apparent winner, provided a useless phone number. So he was never contacted despite repeated tries.

Therefore, the prize went to number two…which was a tie between Tyler Cullum and Jacob Parrish, They both had 11 right and guessed 42 points would be scored in the tie-breaker game which was Monticello’s loss to Putnam County, 14-13, for a total of 27 points.

So both gentlemen came to The News office, and we flipped a coin to determine the winner. Mr. Parrish was the winner of the coin toss, so he collected a $25 prize from Laura Tyler at Sovereign Risk Solutions. Mr. Cullum, who was represented by his father, Nelson Cullum, collected a consolation prize of $10 and a t-shirt from The Monticello News.

There is a lesson in this. If you don’t provide a good phone number, or can’t receive calls on Monday, do not enter. You can’t win if we can’t get in touch with you.

So, the only people who have their names added to the grand prize honor roll this week are the two who tied to win, since a player must get 12 right or win to have his or her name added to the grand prize honor roll.

This week contest players have another chance to win a $25 prize, this week from Larry’s 4-Way, and have their name added to the Grand Prize honor roll for premium tickets to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta on January 1. As last week proved, there’s no such thing as a sure thing. Upsets abounded. So, veteran or novice, anyone who wants to play can try his or her hand at the football contest. It was only the second time playing for this week’s winner. So, turn to page 9, fill out the entry form, or write your entry on a plain piece of paper, and turn it into The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 20.
