Third Grader Wins Football Contest

RAYCE VAUGHN (L), DAVID LEACH

It was a tough week for Monticello News football contest players.

First, we messed up. The same game was listed on number five and number eight last week. Some players, like the winner, chose to be sure to get one right, and split their answers, putting USC on one and Washington State on the other. Others went for the win and put the same team on both. Well Washington State won, so those who picked USC twice missed two.

Third grader Rayce Vaughn of Monticello was smart, or lucky, enough to correctly guess the winners of as many as 12 games listed. He was the only one, so his is the only name to go on the honor roll this week.

For his efforts Rayce picked up a $25 prize from David Leach at Monticello Drugs, who along with Dana Leach Realty was the sponsor of the week. Rayce is not as faithful a player as his mother and brother; this was only his second or third time playing. And, he picked the opposite of what they picked for the most part. And, he won.

Four other people had 11 right—Garrett Kirksey, Orlando Jones, Jr., Zach Norris, and Paul White. Unfortunately, that is not enough to have your name added to the Grand Prize Honor Roll for four premiums tickets to the Chick-fil-A/Peach Bowl.in Atlanta on January 1.

But, everyone gets another chance this week—both for the $25 weekly prize and a chance at the grand prize. Just turn to page 10, fill out the contest form (or print it on a separate sheet of paper), and turn it into The News office no later than 5 p.m. tomorrow, Oct. 6. Entries may be brought to The News office, 247 West Washington Street, faxed to 706-468-6576, or e-mailed to info@themonticellonews.com.
