Robert James Fletcher, Jr.

Robert James Fletcher, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 8, 2017. He is reuniting with family and friends as they worship at Jesus’ feet. Oh Happy Day!

Robert, or Bob as his friends called him, loves Jesus and loved his family and loved his church; all of them: Curlew Baptist, Dunedin Baptist, Crossroads Baptist and Monticello Baptist. He was a shining example of doting husband, loving father and servant.

Bob served in the United States Air Force for 26 and a half years. He traveled the world but agreed there is no place like home. He was proud to be an American and proud to serve his country.

Not only did Bob retire from the USAF as Chief Master Sargent (CMSGT) in avionics, he also worked at Honeywell and Sperry as a logistics engineer.

When Bob retired from the USAF he moved his family to Clearwater, Fla. in 1978. He and his wife, Wilma Fletcher, resided there until 2015 when they moved to Monticello.

Bob is walking those streets of gold with his mother, Dorothy Hurt Copeland, step-father C.M. Copeland, brother and sister-in-law Jake and Cathy Fletcher, brother-in-law Ken Coffey and niece Cheryl Coffey. He is telling them about his dear wife, Wilma, whom he visited twice a day every day at The Retreat Nursing home. He is talking about the funny things she said and all the ways she took care of him in the nearly 52 years of marriage together.

Robert, or Papa, is certainly bragging about his five grandchildren. They were the light of his life. Amber Fletcher of Palm Harbor, Fla. was the only grandchild for four years and they had a bond like no other. He was so proud of her.

Tanner Fletcher of Monticello brought an excitement that only a high school senior can, especially when he joins the band for the first time. Papa enjoyed so much quality time with Amber and Tanner when they lived in Florida, from babysitting, picking them up from school, watching baseball games, show choir performances or going to Country Pizza Inn.

When Papa moved to Monticello he was able to really get to know Avery Jacobs, Emma Jacobs and Gavin Jacobs as he lived with them for seven out of the 26 months he lived here. He enjoyed going to all their drama performances, band performances, football game half-time shows and just hanging out.

Papa loved all his grandchildren and prayed over them daily. His proudest moments were baptizing each one when they made the decision to follow Christ!

Robert especially loved to talk about his children, Rob Fletcher of Palm Harbor, Fla. and Cheryl Jacobs of Monticello.

When Robert moved to Monticello to be with his daughter and son-in law, Cheryl and Bobby Jacobs, he enjoyed helping them in any way possible; whether it was washing towels, picking up kids from school or taking them to doctor appointments. He was a kind and loving father. His children never wondered if they were loved. His greatest achievement was leading them in the direction to follow Christ. He knew before he left this earth that his whole family would be reunited in heaven.

Along with his wife, children and grandchildren he is looking forward to reuniting with his sister, Phyllis Fletcher Goldsworthy of Pensacola, Fla. and her husband Larry Goldsworthy, sister Bonnie Copeland Justice of Fitzgerald, and sister, Connie Copeland Coffey Sumner of Fitzgerald, and her husband Jack Sumner and Stephanie Fletcher of Palm Harbor, FL.

Oh Happy Day!
