Marijuana, Weapons Are Seized

Last Thursday, Sept. 21, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Crime Suppression Unit and the Georgia Governor’s Task Force conducted a joint operation in Jasper County.

The operation consisted of the Governor’s Task Force helicopter flying over Jasper County looking for marijuana cultivation sites. The helicopter pilot and co-pilot spotted marijuana plants from the air at a Kline Road location. A search of the property and residence at that location, yielded cultivation products, several firearms, and several pounds of marijuana.

Duane Alan English was arrested for possession of dangerous drugs, tampering with evidence, possession of schedule 2 drugs with intent to distribute, and manufacturing of marijuana with intent to distribute.

In addition to the marijuana plants and other marijuana, deputies also seized weapons and ammunition.

In other incidents in the last week, burglary of cash was reported at the Monticello BP station in town, and on the same day, Monday, the security alarm sounded, and the deputies responded to what was written up as a burglary at another address on West Greene Street. Two different complainants went to the JCSO to report I.D. fraud. Tires and rims were taken from an address on Guy Jones Road in Newborn, and a 1996 Suburban was reported stolen from an address on Jefferies Road. Deputies also responded to a report of financial transcaction card fraud on Macon Street.

Others arrested in the last week include:

•Bart Wesley Ray, 34, Monticello—possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and probation violation.

•Brandon Wayne Herndon, 24, Charlotte, N.C.—probation violation.

•Quancy Montrell Clements, 24, Eatonton—hold for warrant in Baldwin Co.

Deputies also responded to numerous others calls for service, including 105 premises check, 74 stopping suspicious person or vehicle, 58 serve civil papers, 25 direct traffic, 21 alarms, 20 subject needs officer, 15 pick-up prisoner/subject, eight animal control needed, nine speeding autos, seven accidents, and various other types of calls.
