Clay Crushing Cougars Begin Season

Piedmont Academy’s Clay Crushing Cougar shotgun team began its new season Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Ocmulgee River Gun Club in Macon.

Seven schools competed at the event. With Hurricane Irma moving closer to Georgia, the day made for challenging conditions. During the competition, 100 shooters fired 50 rounds of skeet and 100 rounds of sporting clays.

The following team members competed for the Clay Crushing Cougars earning a combined score of skeet and sporting clays: Mitch Marsh, 130; Eli Waits, 123; Andrew Chapko, 100; Cody Vaughn, 96; Anne Marie Hildebrant, 95; Blake Calhoun, 84; Madison Sanders, 77 and Drake Coody, 73. Out of 100 shooters, Marsh was first as high overall shooter (HOA) as well as first in sporting clays.

In the discipline of skeet, Piedmont was led by Waits, 46; Marsh, 45; Hildebrant, 42; Chapko, 39; Vaughn, 34; Sanders, 33; Calhoun, 31 and Coody, 28.
