‘Canes Lose to Red Devils

It was another disappointing week as the Canes fell short in a hard fought 34-7 loss to the Jackson County Red Devils.

The game started out wonderfully for the Canes as a big throw on fourth down led to a first and goal for the Canes. With this opportunity, the Canes were able to rush in for a touchdown giving them the first score. Thanks to the Canes touchdown and strong defense, they left the first quarter with a 7-0 lead over the Red Devils.

However, this was not enough to stop the Red Devils from equalizing despite having to make two fourth down conversions. This led to a tie game at 7-7 as the Red Devils were getting ready to kick the ball off to the Canes. A poor kick off by the opponent made it look like the Canes were able to start their drive with great field position.

However, a few bounces of the ball made it difficult to field which led to the Red Devils recovering the kick off. They used this opportunity to score a rushing touchdown giving them a 14-7 lead. The defense was able to step up big and cause a three and out for the Red Devil offense. However, a ten yard penalty forced the Canes to punt the ball away.

With the clock counting down, the Red Devils were able to score a touchdown despite a big sack by the Canes. This led to the Red Devils having a lead of 21-7.

It looked like a poor start to the end of the half for the Canes after a punt return by the Red Devils. However, their touchdown was brought back due to a block in the back call. Despite the momentum going the Canes way due to the flag, the Red Devils were able to go down and score a touchdown extending their lead to 28-7 at halftime.

For the second time in the game, a big yardage play by the Red Devils was brought back due to a flag. Similarly to the other flag, this did not affect them as they were able to score a rushing touchdown on the very next play. This gave the Red Devils a 34-7 lead to end the third quarter.

It was an uneventful fourth quarter. There was strong defense for both teams as the Red Devils made a fumble recovery while the Canes forced a punt.

The Canes had one touchdown in this week’s game as they rushed for 57 yards and passed for 90 yards for a total of 144 offensive yards.

The Canes play their first region game of the year on Friday against the Banks County Leopards. They will be looking to pick up their first win for both the year and the region in what will no doubt be an exciting Friday night under the lights at Rose Bowl Field.
