Two Are Arrested Here for Drugs

Last Friday morning, August 25, the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office Tactical Squad executed a search warrant on Hughes Road in Newborn.

The warrant was a part of a long term investigation that is being worked with the assistance of Morgan and Putnam Counties. Agents of the Jasper County Crime Suppression Unit had obtained two search warrants, one for a Jasper County location and the other for a Morgan County location and both warrants were executed early Friday morning by their respective agencies. The warrants netted a large amount of both drugs and guns from the two locations.

At the Jasper County location, Angela Lynn Gatica and Emilio Nava Vazquez were arrested on felony drug and weapons charges. They are both charged with sale of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, trafficking methamphetamine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of a Schedule 1 substance with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

The investigation is ongoing in both counties and anyone with information related to the case is encouraged to contact the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

Other incidents investigated by the JCSO over the last week included two separate cases involving counterfeit money. One occurred at CVS on Greene Street in Monticello on Monday, and the other was at Ingles on Hwy. 16 west last Tuesday, Aug. 22.

There was also a shoplifting report at the Dollar General on Hwy. 212 west in Jasper County.

Two burglaries were reported in the last week—one at an address in Mansfield where a television, chain saw and drill were taken from a garage, and the other on Funderburg Drive where a wallet was taken. Deputies also responded to a call of fraud/ financial identity at Turtle Cove Clubhouse.

Other persons arrested in the last week include:

•Calvin Jones, Jr., 47, Eatonton—driving while license suspended or revoked.

•Jonathan Adre Sims, 20, Monticello—cruelty to children, third degree (2 counts) and battery.

•Mattie Charae Parks, 38, Covington—simple battery.

•Walter Lee Dorough, Jr., 31, Monticello—terroristic threats and acts.

•Porsha Reshae Miller, 25, Monticello—failure to maintain lane, possession of marijuana less than an ounce and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Cedric Donnell Stone, 44, Monticello—probation violation.

•Russell Clay Mincy, 58, Monticello—probation violation.

•Victoria Brianna Smith, 25, Hillsboro—probation violation.

•Elizabeth Ann Smith, 23, Oxford—probation violation.
