Several Get Jail Time

Judge Alison Burleson presided over the Jasper County Superior Court trial calendar proceedings last week that resulted in jail time for several defendants.

Desi Jamar Appling was sentenced to serve seven years in confinement with the remainder of a 30 year balance on probation as a repeat offender for counts including sale of cocaine, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana, and forgery in the first degree. He was fined $2,000.

Joe F. Lawson, III was sentenced to three years in confinement with the balance of a 20 year sentence to be completed on probation. Also, sentenced as a repeat offender, he was charged on 13 counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, two counts of possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance, and one count of possession of methamphetamine while 19 other counts were nolle prossed. He was credited with time served since November 2016 to April 2017 and fined $1,000.

James Logan Edwards was sentenced to 180 days in Jasper County jail for driving while license suspended, giving false information to an officer, and failure to maintain lane.

David Neil Jalbert was sentenced to 90-120 days in a state probation detention center for computer pornography and was fined $1,000. He was also sentenced to five years of probation for another charge of interference with government property.

Willie Lee Jones was sentenced to 120-180 days in a detention center for burglary in the first degree and aggravated assault. He also has to pay restitution of $1001 to his victim.

Michael Shane Parker was sentenced to 30 days in Jasper County jail and ordered to seek substance abuse treatment for possession of a Schedule 11 Controlled Substance. He was fined $1,000 for the possession charge and $100 for fishing without a valid license.

James Harrison Mills was sentenced to 24 hours in Jasper County jail for driving under the influence (DUI). He was also ordered to take a DUI Risk Reduction course and was fined $500.

Randy Lewis Bennett was sentenced to 24 hours in Jasper County jail for driving while license suspended, possession of marijuana, and giving false information to an officer. Following confinement two years of probation was ordered and he was fined $1,000.

Defendants receiving probation sentences included:

James Thomas Russell, seven years on probation for statutory rape. Fined $1,500.

Thomas Joseph Vogelpohl, five years on probation for forgery in the third degree and $2,500 in restitution to the Bank of Monticello.

Charles Daniel Smith, five years on probation for two counts of sale of marijuana. Fined $1,500.

Jesse Garrett Shirley, three years on probation for possession of methamphetamine and criminal trespass. Fined $1,000.

Gabriel M. Richards, three years on probation for reckless driving, possession of marijuana, tampering with evidence, obstruction of an officer, impeding traffic flow and failure to stop at a stop sign. Fined $1,650.

Ashley Mohorne, one year on probation for reckless driving and ordered to attend DUI Risk Reduction Course. Fined $500.

Amber Symone Brown, one year on probation for drugs not in original container. Fined $400.

Jovante Alexander, one year on probation for battery and a consecutive year on probation for affray, public drunkenness, and giving false information to an officer. Fined $800.

Henry Jay Digby, one year on probation for false report of a crime. Fined $500.

Timothy Randall Pugh, one year on probation for obstruction of an officer.

Tommy Lee Kell, one year on probation for statutory rape. Fined $500.

Darnell Dontae Pennamon, one year on probation for simple battery and two counts of terroristic threats. Fined $400.

Reginald Edmond Crawley, one year on probation for theft by taking. Fined $500.

Jeffrey Scott Cantrell, one year on probation for reckless driving. Fined $400.

William Crumbley, one year on probation for disorderly conduct. Fined $500.

John Robert Dempsey, one year on probation for two counts of simple battery, family violence. He must also complete the family violence intervention program. Fined $400.

Mondrez Jacobs, one year on probation for giving false information to an officer. Fined $400.

Trisha Rose Davies, one year on probation for criminal trespass and obstruction of an officer. Fined $400.

Kendra Michelle Jackson, one year on probation for disorderly conduct. Fined $250.

Michael Justin Ogle, one year on probation for giving false information to an officer. Fined $500.
