Lady Cougars Defeat John Milledge

The Piedmont Academy varsity softball team seemed to have things under control against visiting John Milledge Academy Monday afternoon.

The Lady Cougars held an 8-3 lead going into the top of the seventh inning only to see the visiting Lady Trojans rally to tie the game with five runs. Piedmont would score the game winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Lucy Tuggle (two hits), Neely Bradford (two RBI) and Ava Anglin (two RBI) helped lead the offense.

Neely Bradford recorded four strikeouts while pitching the first 6.1 innings. Maddie Morton got the final two outs in the top of the seventh inning including one by strike out. Morton was credited with the win.

“We made it interesting,” said coach Colt Spivey. “We had a couple of defensive miscues to let them back in the game. In the end we had to execute offensive to escape with the win.”

The Lady Cougars, who improved to 5-1 overall, scored five runs in the bottom of the first and then added three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Anglin had a walk off sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win.

John Milledge was scoreless until the top of the fourth inning when it scored three runs.

Piedmont finished the game with 13 hits while JMA had eight.

The Lady Cougars were scheduled to play Windsor Academy Wednesday and will host Loganville Christian Academy today, August 31 at 6 p.m.
