Man Is Arrested for Armed Robbery

Marvis Armel Wyman, age 36, of Monticello, was arrested on August 2, and charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to a report from the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).

On July 27, at approximately 11 p.m., a. masked person entered the convenience store located at 210 West Greene Street, Monticello, produced a chrome handgun and demanded money from the cash register.

The clerk opened the cash drawer and then attempted to escape to the rear kitchen area. A struggle took place with the clerk at which time the robber fired one shot at the victim from the chrome handgun, striking the back wall. The robber then took an amount of cash from the register and fled the scene on foot.

Deputies arrived on scene approximately one minute after receiving the 911 call and began a search of the area while the victim was being interviewed.

Mr. Wyman was arrested about a week later.

This week, on Monday, deputies responded to Bobwhite Court and the theft of cash and a handgun. Also, on Monday, deputies responded to the report of a stolen gun on Georgia-Pacific Road.

On Saturday, they were called to an address on Burney Drive in Monticello were several guns, knives, and safe were taken. Last week, they received a report from an address on Jackson Lake Road about a stolen heart necklace.

They have identified suspects in several of the cases. Persons arrested in the last week, and their charges, include:

•Michael Forrest Cook, 27, Monticello—Jasper County Magistrate Court bench warrant.

•Joshua Matthew Epps, 21, Rutledge—possession of methamphetamine.

•Kayla Marie Smith, 19, Rutledge—possession of methamphetamine.

•Shirley Jean Suttles, 58, Monticello—driving while license suspended or revoked, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and failure to maintain lane.

•Kenyatta Jenise Standifer, 38, Monticello—probation violation.

•Walter Joe Davis, 66, Newborn—possession of methamphetamine.

•Joseph Lee Stephenson, 30, Monticello—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Misty Marie Spence, 37, Oxford—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Lance Cody Harrison, 27, Covington—hold for warrant in Walton Co.

•Thomas Marion Lowe, Jr., 59, Richland, WA—probation violation.

•Eddie Joseph Chavarria, 29, Conyers—hold for warrant in Rockdale Co.

•Jesse Hannah Follett, 20, Savannah—probation violation.
