Mrs. Mary Lois Hill

A homegoing celebration for Mrs. Mary Lois Hill was held Saturday, July 22, at Greenwood Baptist Church in Shady Dale. Bishop N. A. Curry, pastor, officiated; burial was in the Shady Dale Community Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Lois Hill was born April 15, 1937 in Shady Dale, Ga. She was the first-born child to Jack and Mary Jenkins. She had five sisters and three brothers. She joined Greenwood Baptist Church as a young child and remained a faithful member throughout her life. In 2008, Bishop N. A. Curry appointed Mother Hill as the Sr. Mother in charge of facilitating baptisms and baby dedications. Because she loved her church, this was a joy to be held. She served as a Past Worthy Matron for Chapter 712 as well as the Sunday School secretary.

Mrs. Hill enjoyed a beautiful and very fulfilling life. She graduated in 1956 from Jasper County School. She later met and married the love of her life, Mr. Harvey (Hob) Hill Jr. in 1965.

She retired from the Marriott Corporation in 1999 where she was the bookkeeper and head cashier. She loved her family and always provided great support and spiritual guidance. She was the first African American to build a new home in Shady Dale during the 1960’s.

Mother Mary Lois Hill was a very courageous and noble woman admired by many. She was called home to be with the Lord on July 17, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Grace Thurmond; two brothers, Henry Doyle Jenkins and Joe Louis Jenkins; and her husband Harvey Hill Jr.

She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories one beloved daughter, Andreane Sanders (Alvin); two granddaughters, Erica (Chris) Fleming and Rashonda (James) Bolston; two great-granddaughters, Courtney McCrary and Peyton Bolston; four sisters, Mattie Williams Crawford, Louise Whitfield, Sarah (Eugene) Stinson, and Carolyn Jenkins; one brother, Lonnie Jenkins and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Curry & Derricho Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
