POST OFFICE GETS FACELIFT

The historic Monticello Post Office on East Washington Street is getting a facelift. The building will be completely remade, but retain its historical nature, looking much the same, with fresh paint, windows, sheet rock, everything.

The renovation began in April, and the contractor has a year to complete the job, but if they continue at the current rate they should be well ahead of schedule, a post office spokesperson said. The downstairs has been completed, and they are currently working on the facade. It still will not have a handicapped ramp out front, but those needing assistance are welcome to go to the back of the building where there is a parking space, a ramp, and a bell, said the postmaster.

Because it doesn’t have the option of closing, the work is being done around the post office workers.
