Lady Cougars Looking to Strong Season

Piedmont Academy’s softball team will have plenty of game experience for the upcoming 2017 season.

The Lady Cougars begin the new softball campaign on August 8 at Briarwood Academy. New head coach Colt Spivey said the majority of last season’s Final Four squad returns.

“We lost two seniors from last year’s team and only have one senior this year,” Spivey said. “We will have plenty of experience on the field so we have high expectations. We are looking to be a contender again this year.”

Last season saw the team advance all the way to the state semifinals before falling to Windsor.

The Lady Cougars will begin preseason practice on July 24. Piedmont will compete in the same region in 2017 with Flint River and LaGrange Academy.

While this is Spivey’s first season as head coach, he has been an assistant for several years with the program.

“I don’t expect much of a transition for the players. I have coached many of our players since they were in middle school. They know me and my system and I know what they can do.”
