Cougars Preparing for New Season
The countdown clock is now under a month to the start of a new season for the Piedmont Academy football team.
Coach Wes Tanner’s squad will open the 2017 campaign Friday, August 11, against Bethlehem Christian Academy at home. With only a few weeks remaining until the new football season, all eyes are looking toward next month.
“It’s a race to get ready,” Tanner said.
Piedmont players have been involved in summer weight training and conditioning three days a week. Players are working on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Official preseason practice begins on July 24.
“Our numbers have been good and everyone is eager to see what the new season will bring,” Tanner said.
The Cougars will host a 7-on-7 event July 17 and then take part in another competition July 20 at Bethlehem Christian.
Tanner, who is entering his fourth season as the program’s head coach, said his coaching staff returns intact.
Following the opener at home against BCA, Piedmont will travel to Loganville Christian Academy on Aug. 18 and to John Milledge Academy on Aug. 25. Piedmont returns home Sept. 1 against Briarwood before traveling to Trinity Christian School (Dublin) on Sept. 8 and Gatewood on Sept. 15. The final non-region game will be Sept. 22 at home against Brentwood.
The region schedule begins Oct. 6 at Windsor following by home contests against Bethlehem Temple (Oct. 13) and Flint River (Oct. 20).
