Bernice Bell Goolsby
Bernice Bell Goolsby was born on August 20, 1926, and passed away on July 7, 2017. Bernice was lovingly raised by Mr. Moses and Mrs. Gertrude Bell.
At an early age, she joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church. She met and married the love of her life, Willie James Goolsby in 1954, and together they raised three children.
Her mother, Katie Bell, adoptive parents, a step-son, a daughter-in-law and her husband preceded her in death.
Mrs. Goolsby loved life and she lived it well. She lived to be close to 91 years while still being energetic and active. As was stated about Abraham, she was “old and satisfied with days.”
Bernice enjoyed sewing, cooking, canning, fishing and gardening. She continued to engage in these activities until recently when her health rapidly failed. Bernice was a very productive and resourceful homemaker.
She was a beautiful, strong-willed, and caring person who always cared for and went the extra mile for anyone who had the opportunity to make her acquaintance. At one point in her life, Bernice was an accomplished seamstress and spent much time designing, sewing and altering garments for family, neighbors and leaders in the business community. She loved animals also.
Bernice leaves to cherish her memories: a daughter, a son, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law; a daughter-in-law and son-in-law. She also leaves to mourn her passing cousins, friends, and many devoted church members. She will be sadly missed by all.
A service for Mrs. Goolsby was held Wednesday, July 12, at Thomas Persons Hall. Smith and Sons Funerl Home was in charge of arrangements.
