Accidents Investigated; Persons Are Arrested
An article in last week’s newspaper mentioned a fatal motorcycle wreck, but there were no details available. The accident report from the Georgia State Patrol (GSP) shows that the vehicle that wrecked was not actively being pursued by a deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO).
According to the report from the GSP, there is little mention of the dirt bike on which Cordell Peacock was traveling. What happened was the yellow Suzuki dirt bike was traveling east on Pitts Chapel Road. While traveling, the driver of the Suzuki passed a marked Jasper County Sheriff’s deputy vehicle.
As the driver passed the deputy, the deputy activated his emergency lights, and backed into a private drive on Pitts Chapel Road. The deputy was forced to show regard to a second dirt bike, a green Kawasaki, traveling east on Pitts Chapel Road. By this time the deputy has lost sight of the yellow Suzuki, and is now attempting to stop the green Kawasaki.
The green Kawasaki continued east on Pitts Chapel Road, then crossed Post Road and continued east on Martin Lane. The driver was unable to stay on the roadway as he negotiated a right curve, and he entered the north ditch and continued traveling east. While in the ditch, the green Kawasaki struck the yellow Suzuki that was laying on its right side. The Kawasaki traveled over the Suzuki, causing the driver of the Kawasaki to lose control. The bike continued to travel east and fell over on its right side, then spun around and came to rest in the roadway facing west on its right side.
The crash was recorded on the deputy’s patrol vehicle’s car camera. The report does not identify the driver of the yellow Suzuki or say where he was at the time of the crash.

The accident on Bullard Road involved juveniles. In that the pick-up truck, pictured last week, traveled into a left curve too fast resulting in the passenger side tires traveling off the west shoulder into the roadside ditch.
The driver steered to the left and was able to bring the vehicle back onto the roadway in a counterclockwise spin. The driver then overcorrected by steering to the right causing the vehicle to rotate clockwise in the roadway. The driver’s side tires dug into the ground and caused the vehicle to overturn onto its driver’s side while traveling towards the west shoulder. After overturning one time, the vehicle came to a final uncontrolled rest on its passenger side in the ditch while facing north.
Meanwhile, this week, deputies investigated several incidents, including theft of clothing from a dryer at the laundromat on West Washington Street.
In addition, after a domestic dispute on Shirley Drive, a man was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
