James Archie Harrell
James Archie Harrell, age 77, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.
James “Jim” Harrell was born in Milan, Ga., to the late John D. Harrell and Lillian Nordeci Cravey Harrell. He was proceeded in death by his parents and his brother, Rozier Marvin Harrell.
Jim grew up in Warner Robins, Ga., and attended Georgia Southern University for several years before moving to Atlanta to begin his career in pharmaceutical sales and management. He held several positions over his 34 year career and six times was awarded the President’s Club Award to mark his organizational success and leadership.
While living in Decatur with his young family, it was his love of deer hunting brought them to Jasper County in 1974.
James served on the Piedmont Academy Board of Directors, Jasper Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, Board of Tax Assessors, and the Board of Directors at Hunter Pope Country Club. He was a member of the Jasper Masonic Lodge #50 F&AM. He served as past president of Hunter Pope County Club and was instrumental in expanding the golf course from its original nine holes to a full 18-hole course.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Shope Harrell of Monticello; children, Mary (Jeff) Greeson of Monticello and Jamie Harrell of St. Louis, Mo.; and grandchildren, Carter Greeson, Georgia Grace Harrell and Emma Lillian Harrell.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2017, at the Monticello First United Methodist Church. Rev. Nathaniel Long and Dr. John Brown will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 14, 2017, at Jordan Funeral Home.
