Rodeo Is This Weekend

Major General Thomas R. Moore, Assistant Adjutant General—Air, Georgia National Guard, Dobbins Air Reserve Base, is the Grand Marshal for the Shady Dale Rodeo Parade set for this Saturday, June 3, at 3 p.m. in Shady Dale.
General Moore’s duties and responsibilities include direct supervision of the Georgia State Air Guard staff, and command of 2,844 Georgia Air Guard members serving in two flying wings, seven geographically separated units, and a Combat Readiness Training Center.
General Moore was commissioned in 1981 through the Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of South Carolina. He has commanded at the squadron, group and wing levels, and twice served as Commander, 415th Air Expeditionary Group, Karshi-Khanabad Air Base, Uzbekistan. General Moore is a master navigator with more than 3,500 flying hours in several types of planes.

He has an impressive education and assignment background, and has received numerous awards and decorations.
The parade is always a highlight of the rodeo festivities, and features Shriners, horses, a wagon train, and lots more. It will begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
Also during the day on Saturday is the Shady Dale Round-Up Festival featuring arts and crafts, entertainment, lots of good food, and the chance of going to “:jail” to raise money for the community club. In addition, Shady Dale Rodeo t-shirts will be on sale.
The rodeo begins at 8 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. This year’s rodeo will feature the best cowboys and cowgirls competing for $35,000 in prize money.
Matched against the toughest livestock from the Southern Rodeo Company, it’s something for the whole family, bare back and saddle bronc riding, tie down and break away roping, steer wrestling, barrel racing, team roping, world championship bull riding and a calf scramble for kids 6 to 12.
A variety of concessions will be available from pit cooked BBQ, hotdogs, hamburgers, boiled peanuts and the favorite, Farm Bureau ladies’ home made cakes, pies, cookies and other sweets.
The hilarious Mike Went-worth will be returning this year as the clown with the specialty act featuring Dusti Dickerson performing her colorful trick and exciting roman riding act on her flying steeds, Royal and Blue.
Miss Rodeo 2017 will be signing autographs at the Market on the Square in Monticello from 9-10 a.m. and Hays Tractor and Equipment in Mansfield from 10:30 a.m. until noon.
