Hurricanes Defeat the War Eagles
The Monticello Hurricanes varsity baseball squad claimed victory over the Putnam County War Eagles Tuesday with a final tally of 8-2.
It was a good day on the ball field for the Canes who earned nine hits (scoring on eight) and had only one error.
Matt Cain was on the mound for all seven innings. He had five strikeouts and a .71 whip.
Josh Disharoon and Braden Lynch each had two hits; Jay Johnson, Disharoon and Lynch each had two walks; Dylan Jackson, Jeff Cain, and Lynch each had two runs batted in (RBIs) while Disharoon, Johnson and Lynch each had three quality at bats.
Tuesday’s region win follows a 6-3 win at G.M.C. last Thursday. Matthew Lawson went 3-for-3 and Disharoon went 2-for-3 while J. Cain had one RBI.
Hunter Duke pitched the first five innings and allowed two earned runs to get the win. M. Cain pitched the final two innings.
Prior to the two game winning streak the Canes fell to Monroe Area last Wednesday.
The squad was scheduled to host G.M.C. Wednesday prior to traveling to Rabun County tomorrow, March 17 (if weather permits) for a 5 p.m. doubleheader contest.
The schedule continues with a three-day, three-game stretch beginning Tuesday, March 21 hosting Oglethorpe at 5:30 p.m. and then on the road at Crawford and Strong Rock for Wednesday and Thursday competitions.
