Diamond Cougars Are Playing Well

The early season success has continued for the Piedmont Academy varsity baseball team.

The Diamond Cougars defeated Bethlehem Christian Academy 3-2 on March 7 behind the combined pitching efforts of Brock Carter, Mack Brady and Tate Marks.

Carter pitched the first inning and had two strikeouts in the home victory before Brady worked the next two innings with another two strikeouts. Marks then closed out the final four frames allowing just one hit and striking out one.

At the plate, Piedmont managed just enough offense for the win. Jay Sheets, Rob Allgood and Carter each drove in runs and Owen Brady was 1-for-1.

The Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the first before BCA tied the game in the top of the second inning. Piedmont scored what turned out to be a the game-winning run in the bottom o the third.

Mack Brady and Carter both had stolen bases.

Piedmont then recorded an impressive 12-2 home victory against Windsor Academy last Thursday in region play. Carter earned the win going all five innings and striking out six.

The Cougars had more offense in this contest as Mack Brady and Sheets both homered. Mack Brady finished the day 2-for-3 with four runs and an RBI while Sheets drove in an impressive seven runs going 3-for-4.

Michael Edwards was 1-for-1 with two RBI and three runs.

Mack Brady, Logan Conner, Clayton Carter, Wyatt Galloway and Edwards each had stolen bases.

Monday’s scheduled road game against Gatewood was not played due to weather conditions and will be made up later in the season.

Piedmont will return to action Monday, March 13 against John Milledge Academy on the road in Milledgeville at 3:30 p.m. The Cougars will then travel to Monsignor Donovan on Friday, March 24 for a 4:30 p.m. Region 4-AA contest.
