Baesball Canes Lose Opener

The Monticello Hurricane varsity baseball team began its 2016-2017 season Tuesday with a road game at Lamar High School. The squad took a 3-1 loss but is looking to get back into the swing of things with games today and Friday.

Veteran coach Chris Jenkins will again lead the varsity squad this season.

The varsity team includes seniors Colton Clay, Josh Disharoon, Jay Johnson, Matthew Lawson, Robert Womack, juniors Jeff Cain, Braden Lynch, Trevor Mitchell, Chance Peters, Payton Rogers, sophomores Chris Arnold, Thomas Cooper, Max Dotson, Hunter Duke, Jamel Gude, Dylan Jackson, Jacob Parrish and freshmen Matt Cain, Ben Lynch, Blane Marat, Tyler Wages, and Colby Williams.

This season’s schedule includes 23 competitions with just under half of those as region games. The varsity Canes will host Strong Rock today, Feb. 23 at 5 p.m., and tomorrow, Feb. 24 the squad travels to Monroe Area High School for a 5:30 p.m. game.
