SUSPICIOUS FIRE

The cause of this fire Sunday on Brooks Drive in Pennor Hills is still under investigation this week. A camper next to a home was possibly set on fire, and the fire got very close to the house, causing damage to it. Firefighters were called to a report of a camper on fire, but got there and saw the proximity to the house, and immediately began to try to prevent damage to the home.
Firefighters from Station 3, Monticello; Station 4, Hillsboro; Station 5, Piedmont, and Station 7, Farrar, all responded to the fire and saved the home. Firefighters have been busy fighting brush fires, too, with one over the weekend and another one Monday on Goolsby Road. In that case, a controlled burn from two days previous never went completely out, and ended up catching the nearby woods on fire. The property owner came home to find it Monday, and about six and a half acres burned. Workers with the Georgia Forestry Commission were already nearby, and were able to help extinguish the fire quickly.
