Piedmont Boys Win in Region Tourney
Piedmont Academy’s varsity boys advanced to play another day in the Region 4-AA basketball tournament with a 63-55 win against Brentwood Tuesday night.
The Cougars, who raced out to a 24-6 lead, were led by a 20-point performance by Tate Marks. Sam Wright added 12 points while Chris McClain and Sam Younker both scored nine.
Piedmont led 31-11 at halftime and 50-30 after the third quarter. J.T. Webb and Joseph Anderson both added four points.
The Cougars will now play Windsor today, Feb. 16, at 5:30 p.m. in the region semifinals. Piedmont Academy is the host school for this year’s region tournament.
The Lady Cougars were not as fortunate in the region tournament Tuesday as they fell to Monsignor Donovan 41-32. Hailey Hooper finished in double figures with 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and Haley Ann Frank added nine points.
Madison McCart and Alexis Dodson both contributed four points while Sydney Stroud scored three.
Prior to the region tournament, the Piedmont varsity teams closed out the regular season last Friday on the road against Briarwood in Warrenton.
The Lady Cougars earned a 37-33 victory behind double digit performances from Frank (12 points) and McCart (10 points.) Hooper finished with seven points.
The varsity boys were defeated 67-44 despite 19 points from Marks. Anderson added nine points and Wright scored seven.
