Maximilian Hess Places Third in State
Maximilian Hess, a Jasper County High School senior, earned a third place finish while representing the Hurricane wrestling team at the Georgia High School Association’s (GHSA) Individual Wrestling State Tournament held in Macon on February 10-11.
Hess competed as the regional winner and sectional finalist for the 170 pound weight class. He lost a close first bout against the eventual state winner from Social Circle but returned to win three consecutive matches which concluded in an overtime with him finishing third in the AA class.
The wrestler was accompanied by the Hurricane wrestling staff including Head Coach Andy Rewis, Coach Rydell Jackson, Coach David Pittman. Athletic Director Doug Huff and Assistant Principal Buddy Cain attended the event as well.
Prior to relocating to Monticello with his parents, Hess attended Lassiter High School in Marietta where he was awarded the Most Promising Freshman Award and Cobb County Champion in wrestling.
The senior currently serves as Senior Class President, member of the Beta Club and Quiz Bowl. Hess is a three sport letterman in football, track, and wrestling and hopes to attend college on a ROTC scholarship and continue wrestling at the collegiate level.
