Richard H. Kicklighter
Richard H. Kicklighter, Ed. D. passed away Jan. 25, 2017 at Abbey Hospice after brief stays at Newton and Riverside Healthcare. Much of his convalescence was managed in home by wife and children.

Mr. Kicklighter was born to Raymond Braxton Kicklighter, M.D. and Lucile Kicklighter Hutcheson. He spent much of his youth with his first cousins and Uncle Lee in Glenville, GA. The oldest, Elbert, taught him all the important things in life; fishing, swimming and gathering pecans. When Elbert built a waterwheel that would turn in the creek, Dad thought he must be the smartest guy since Galileo.
His education continued at UGA where he earned a Bachelors’ and Masters’ degree. He served aboard a sub-tender during the Korean War, where his ever-inventive friend, Sam Goolsby managed to get himself posted to the same ship.
In Monticello, he met the girl who ran the soda fountain at the drugstore. Mary Harvey and Richard continued their life, education and romance together. Marriage, Richards’ Doctorate in Psychology at the University of Florida, and three children followed.
In retirement he donated his time to the community, serving on the Library Board of Directors and other organizations he felt he could assist.
He leaves behind his beloved family: wife, Mary; daughter, Molly; two sons Russell and Hampton, and two granddaughters, Masey and Zoe Canfield; as well as many cousins and work associates for whom he truly cared and stayed in touch.
He retired as Director of Standards and Assessments for the State of Georgia and served as past president of GA. Association of School Psychologists.
