Richard ‘Dick’ Leroy Clayton

Richard “Dick” Leroy Clayton, age 90, passed away Monday, January 9, 2017, at his residence.

Dick Clayton was born in Delano, Calif., to the late Frank Thomas Clayton and Florence Emma Williams Clayton. He lived in Coquille, Oregon for a number of

years; and on June 15, 1972, his job as a supervisor with Georgia Pacific brought his family to Monticello.

Dick Clayton was a deacon and member of the Monticello Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking and being with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Burton Clayton.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Carol Walton Clayton of Monticello; children, Sandra (Russell) Cobb of Mansfield, Shirley (Jimmy) Wise of Monticello and Doug Clayton of Atlanta; grandchildren, Niki (Robert) Barber, Becky (Dennis) Moore, David (Tiffany) Lynch, and Candace (Daniel) Funt; and great grandchildren, Rory Barber, Noah Faubli, Luke Faubli, Ireland Moore, Ethan Lynch and Emily Lynch.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017, at Williams Payne Cemetery. Dr. Robert Whitmire will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 10, 2017, at the Fellowship Hall of the Monticello Baptist Church.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello Baptist Church Youth Group, 334 W. Greene Street, Monticello, Georgia 31064.
