Joe Branson ‘Chip’ Mattison, Jr.

Joe Branson “Chip” Mattison, Jr., age 53, passed away Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016, at his residence after an extended illness.

Chip Mattison was born in Macon, Ga. to Norma McCurry Mattison and the late Joe Branson Mattison, Sr. He moved to Monticello in 1971.

Chip was a member of the Monticello Baptist Church and Jasper County Masonic Lodge #50 F&AM. He was a huge Tennessee fan; loved helping people and was known as “Everybody’s friend”. He was a volunteer fireman and a former Fire Chief of the Hillsboro Fire Department.

Chip worked as a mechanic for Small Engine Repair; a former bus driver for the Jasper County School system and former dump truck driver; locksmith; and lastly, worked at the Sac-O-Suds; especially during the tubing season.

Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Mattison.

He is survived by his children, Crystal Marks of Covington and Zachary Evans of Monticello; grandson, Greyson Marks; mother, Norma McCurry Mattison of Monticello; brothers and sister, Greg (Wafa) Mattison of Monticello, Cindy (Robbie) Wyatt of Shady Dale, and Andy (Cathy) Mattison of Abbeville, S.C.; and nieces and nephews, Jessica Mattison, Joshua Mattison, “Jo-Jo” Mattison, Tiffany Key, Brent Mattison and Amanda Jo Ross.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at the Monticello Baptist Church. Dr. Robert Whitmire will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 2, 2017, at the Monticello Baptist Church.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date at the McCurry family farm in Abbeville, S.C..

The family suggests donations in lieu of flowers to help Roy Hulsey with his battle with cancer. His address is 972 Eatonton Street, Monticello, Ga., 31064.
