Man Is Arrested Trying To Meet Youth

Devin Chase Sheffield, 22, of Preston was arrested last week and charged with criminal attempt to a commit a felony, possession of a firearm or knife during commission of a crime and obscene telephone contact with a child after he came to Monticello with the intention of meeting an underage girl.

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) has arrested several offenders for similar behavior.

The JCSO also investigated numerous thefts in the last week. Things reported missing included everything from driveway reflectors to cash, and lots more. On Monday, a resident on Rock Eagle Road reported the theft of a credit card. Also on Monday, someone on Sandpiper Drive in Alcovy Shores reported the theft of a revolver, ammunition, tools, watches, and safes.

In an incident that occurred either Friday or Saturday, a report was taken with charges of entering auto, criminal trespass and larceny. No details were provided by the JCSO. A large amount of jewelry and cash was reported taken from an address on Cardinal Point, sometime between the first of August and last Wednesday. Again, no details were available.

In an incident on Robby Street, a resident reported the theft of a Playstation 4 and an Iphone. A burglary was reported on Liberty Church Road, where power tools, hand tools, a tool box, ladder and more was taken.

A number of people, including Mr. Sheffield, were booked into the Jasper County Detention Center in the last week. Those individuals, and their charges, include:

•Mara Gladdis Davis, 46, Monticello—theft by shoplifting and probation violation.

•Daniel Hayden Holbrook, 52, Conyers—possession of a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, and possession of drug related objects.

•Randy Michael Day, 31, New Orleans, LA—theft by shoplifting.

•Charles Lee Victrum, Jr., 46, Shady Dale—child support (three counts).

•Jeremy Shane Kidd, 39, Covington—tampering with evidence, possession of methamphetamine, giving false name, address or birthdate to law enforcement officers, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, seat belt violation, driving while license suspended or revoked and duty of driver to stop at or return to the scene of an accident.

•Vanessa Ann Palmer, 28, Summerville, S.C.—hold for warrant at Griffin Police Department.

•Malcolm Lesean Smith, 42, Lithonia—obstruction of a law enforcement officer, giving false name, address or birthdate to law enforcement officer, battery, criminal trespass and driving while license suspended or revoked.

•Terrance Antonia Bostic, 30, Monticello—probation violation.

•Jacob Martin Oders, 33, Covington—probation violation.

•Calvin Stefon Rhodes, 23, Greensboro—probation violation.

•Jorda Jontavious Clements, 26, Monticello—possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana less than an ounce, and probation violation.

•Joseph Eli Lanford, 32, Covington—probation violation.

•Joseph David Anglin, Monticello, 33 — battery (three counts), obstruction of a law enforcement officer and cruelty to children in the third degree (two counts).

•James Dermichael Perry, 33, Decatur—driving while license suspended or revoked, open container and obstructed tag.

•William Lamar King, 47, Meansville—failure to appear for Magistrate Court.

•Rodney Andrew Snow, 50, Hillsboro—drugs not in original container.

•Vincent Julian Stubbs, 54, Mansfield—driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

•Clinton Michael Dunn, 32, Monticello—sale of Schedule I or II controlled substance.

•Billy Joe Wages, 40, Monticello—probation violation.

•Kaci Kristina Wages, 30, Monticello—possession of methamphetamine.

During the week, deputies also responded to more than 400 calls for service, including 61 stopping suspicious person or vehicle, 28 serve civil papers, 25 premises check, 120 subject needs officer, 18 pick-up prisoner or subject, 11 alarms, 10 each escort or convoy and trouble unknown, and many other types of calls.
