Hattie Synoval McMichael
A homegoing celebration for Hattie Synoval McMichael, who died December 14, 2016, was held December 21 at Freedonia A.M.E. Church in Monticello. Rev. Herman Dennis, pastor, officiated. Burial was in McMichael Cemetery.
Ms. McMichael was born on July 15, 1947 to the late Mr. and Mrs. S.C. McMichael and Eddie Mae Sands McMichael in Detroit, Mich. At an early age she joined the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Monticello, and later united with Delivery Baptist Church. Throughout her life she willingly supported a number of churches and organizations.
Ms. McMichael received her early education through the Jasper County School System. After completing Jasper County Training School in 1965, she earned an associate’s degree from Atlanta Junior College, and a bachelor’s degree in social work from Georgia State University in Atlanta. In 1988, while attending college, Synoval became a member of the Eta Mu chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She was employed by Georgia State University where she worked in the office of financial aid. She retired from Georgia State in 2009.
She was preceded in transition by her daughter, Katrice McMichael; and siblings, Etta Mae McMichael King and Dennis McMichael of Monticello, and Thelma Lyles of Chicago, Ill.
Ms. McMichael is survived by her special friend of 42 years, Eddie Webb of Atlanta; her siblings, Joseph McMichael (Pauline) and Samuel McMichael (Wanda), all of Monticello, Sally Tuggle (J.D.) of Sacramento, Calif., Albert White (Louise) of Chicago, Ill., Betty Sanders (Willie) of Eatonton; brother-in-law, Bobby King of Monticello, and Will Lyles of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren, Samuel Arnold, Brittany Arnold, and Joseph McMichael, all of Atlanta; two great-grandchildren, Tymeria Arnold and Madison McMichael of Atlanta; an aunt, Mrs. Minnie Mae McMichael of Monticello, and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
There were also special friends that she could rely upon for support and fun: Charles and Pearl Hooper, Bessie Allen, Malinda Thompson, Dana Brown, Norma Jean Wright, Danashia Allen, and Scottie Hooper.
Pallbearers were Fred Turner, Jr., Greg McMichael, Jameel McMichael, Robert L. Johnson, Michael Webb, Willis McMichael, Jr., Joshua McMichael, and Richard Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers and flower attendants were the Jasper County Training School Class of 1965 and friends.
Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
