SCA Knights Basketball Begins

The Shiloh Christian Acadmey (SCA) Knights varsity and junior varsity boys basketball teams has begun their season playing a tough early season schedule in preparation for region play.

Both teams traveled to face the Covington Academy Bulldogs in early November. The junior Knights were well balanced keeping the Bulldogs on their heels for the first three quarters. In the fourth however, the Knights took advantage of Bulldogs foul troubles and put the game in the win column by hitting four of five free throws with under a minute to play.

Leading the younger Knights were Austin Cumbess with 19 points; Vaughn Healey with 9; Phillip Carter, Jacob Cater, Antonia Mathura, each with 4.

The varsity Knights looked to keep things going later that evening with a win but came up short with a 68-52 loss despite keeping the tempo high and good ball movement.

Coach Tyler Cooper said of the junior Knights, “The boys played well in getting their offense moving as they’ve practiced and were tough on the floor getting loose balls. It was nice to see such good effort this early in the season from the guys.”

With games on November 10 and November 14, the varsity Knights were back in the winning column. They first traveled to Jackson to face the Pleasant Grove Academy Crusaders. The Knights earned a 63-52 road win with solid shooting by Trent Raines who hit five three pointers in the first half. The pressing defense by Joey Woodward and Caleb Compton aided in the win.

Scoring leaders were Raines with 27 points; Parker Wyatt, Caleb Compton; Joey Woodward with 10; Hicks with 3; and Sam Filkins with 2.

The older Knights again came away victors against the Victory Academy Knights in Loganville. Taking the win 40-34, the Knights enjoyed back to back wins after some early losses on the road.

Leading the Knights were Wyatt and Raines with 10 each; Woodward and Compton with 8 each; and Hicks with 3.

Despite Cumbess scoring 20 points earlier that night, the junior Knights lost 31-30. Both SCA squads are ready for a host of home games beginning this week.
