Charles Anderson Carter

Charles Anderson Carter was born on May 7, 1941 to the parentage of the late Charlie Howard and Rosebud Thurmond Carter.

He was a loving husband to the late Erma Carter who passed away on November 14, 1998 and was also preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Gude Epps, brothers, Ray Carter and Raymond Carter and sister, Vera Mae Carter Brown.

He passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2016.

Charles attended Jasper County Training School and graduated with the Class of 1959 where he was a star basketball player, playing in a final state championship game, and a member of the football team, choir and quartet.

He joined St. James A.M.E. as a young boy, attending Sunday school, church and singing in the Men’s choir. Being outdoors, gardening and making wine were his enjoyments. He joined the Monticello Masonic Lodge #329 in 1993.

Charles was employed by Feldspar Corporation in Monticello and retired after 44 years of service.

He is survived by his four children: Christopher Carter of Los Angeles, Calif., Tammy Dunlap (Joshua) of Monticello, Alan Carter of Covington, and Tamara Carter of Monticello; three siblings, Barbara Rockmore of Monticello, Carrie Stewart Elder of Macon, and Wilbur Carter of Monticello; a sister-in-law, Arrie Lee Standifer of Monticello; seven grandchildren: Candice, Coddy, Cassidy, Camren, Britany, Gotina and Donnie; eight great-grandchildren: Hermione, Lavender, Shamayne, Montae, Jataria, Tariya, Dondria and Rodriquez; two special cousins, Jenette Manning and Dorothy Williams; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and very special life long friends. Also, a God son, Rudell Jackson.

Funeral services were held Sunday at St. James A.M.E. Church, with pastor Donna Marie Calix officiating. Burial was in South View Cemetery.

Smith and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
