Another Tough Week for Contest

It was another tough week for football prognosticators in The Monticello News football contest.
Hurricane Matthew took out the LSU/Florida game, meaning contestants only had 14 games to choose from to get 12 right and make the honor roll. However, one veteran player did better than that. Jan Gaston correctly guessed the winner of 13 out of 14 games played in last week’s contest, thereby picking up a $25 prize from Rick Ringer at Larry’s Four-Way, sponsor of the week.
Mrs. Gaston is a regular contest player, and Jasper Health Services, where she is hospital administrator is a sponsor. The whole Gaston family has long been competitive in the football contest, and she beat out husband Joel as well as more than 100 others. Last year, their son Kyle won when Larry’s 4-Way was contest sponsor.
The only game Mrs. Gaston missed was the Washington Redskins’ upset of the Baltimore Ravens. She had faith in the local high schools, and they prevailed. The next closest player, Tommy Boose, got only 11 right, and everyone else got 10 or less right.
Perhaps this week will prove a little easier. Again, there are high school, college, and pro games listed in the weekly contest, and there is no trick to winning. Just select the winner of each game listed, guess the number of points to be scored as the tie-breaker. Then, turn your entry in to The News office…in person, by fax or e-mail, by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14.
This week’s winner will pick up a $25 prize from Venture Medical Associates, sponsor of the week. Even if you don’t win, 12 or more right gets your name on the honor roll for the grand prize which is four tickets to the Chick-Fil-A/Peach Bowl in Atlanta. You can’t win if you don’t play, so get guessing. Remember to write legibly, and submit entry on time!
