Cougars Open Region Play Friday

After a needed week off, the Piedmont Academy football team has its sights set on the 2016 region opener as the Cougars welcome Windsor Academy this Friday.

Piedmont, who fell to Brentwood 8-6 in its last outing on Sept. 23, was able to use the bye week to rest physically and mentally and to begin preparing for the final stretch of the regular season, which will include region games against Windsor, Bethlehem Temple and Flint River.

“The record doesn’t matter anymore,” said Piedmont coach Wes Tanner. “Everyone is 0-0. Even as tough as it’s been to this point, if we win these last three games, we will be in good shape.”

The Windsor Knights enter this week’s contest at 4-3 overall. It will also be the first region game for coach Jimmy Watts’ team. Tanner described the Knights as “super athletic.”

Piedmont used last week as a needed opportunity to heal.

“We began installing our game plan for Windsor, but we also used the week to get over some bumps and bruises,” Tanner said. “It was a successful week for us. This Friday, we will need to limit Windsor from having big plays and, for us, keep possession of the football. We have to play a sound game.”

Kickoff at Cougar Field is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday.
