Cane Cross Country Teams Compete
Jasper County High School (JCHS) boys and girls varsity Cross Country teams traveled to the Georgia Industrial Children’s Home in Macon on September 21 to race in the FPD Invitational, hosted by First Presbyterian Day School.
Despite coming home with two top 10 individual medals, both teams found themselves struggling against the broader overall team strength of their competitors. The JCHS girls team finished in ninth place out of 11 teams, and the JCHS boys finished in 11th place out of 13 teams.
In the varsity girls race, a total of 96 runners represented their school teams, with Holy Innocents’ Episcopal School resoundingly winning the 3.1 mile race by placing all five of its scored runners in the top ten. The JCHS team was led by Alina Jablonski, who finished fourth with a time of 22:22. Finishing next for JCHS, Mari Jablonski also earned a spot in the top 10 finishers’ lineup, crossing the line in 8th place with a time of 23:00.
Malia Moore continued to finish just shy of breaking the 30-minute mark, earning 73rd place with a time of 30:12. Teammates Riley Burton (76th place, 31:17) and Deseray Norwood (84th place, 34:49) completed the JCHS top five scored runners. Rounding out the JCHS team were Ansley Atkinson (86th place, 35:15) Morgan Clement (87th place, 35:24) Claire Taylor (90th place, 36:08) Madelyn Piper (91st place, 36:21) and Emily Rose Cavendar (92nd place, 36:32).
In the varsity boys race, Holy Innocents was again the winning team, placing its five scored runners in the top eleven spots in the field of 110 runners. For the JCHS boys, Robert Womack was the top finisher with a time of 21:57 for 56th place. Andrew Schilling was next to finish, completing the course in 23:19 for 68th place after sprinting past teammate Mario Garcia (69th place, 23:22) as they approached the finish line.
Completing the JCHS top five were Joseph Billings (81st place, 24:56) and Jack Johnston (86th place, 25:22). Rounding out the team were Kevin Ortiz (90th place, 26:04) Jovani Gonzalez (97th place, 27:18) Niall Alhasi (99 th place, 27:49) and Marcos Moore (108th place, 31:28).
The JCHS cross country teams were to run at Dauset Trails in Jackson both this week and last week, at meets hosted by Jackson High School.
