Clay Crushing Cougars Compete

The Piedmont Academy Clay Crushing Cougar shotgun team had its second shoot of the season this past Saturday at Ocmulgee River Gun Club in Macon.

A total of 10 schools competed. Throughout the day, 121 shooters fired 50 rounds of skeet and 100 rounds of sporting clays. Piedmont had six of its 13 varsity members present at the shoot.

In order for shooters to compete at state, they must compete in three registered GISA qualification shoots. The Clay Crushing Cougars finished in fifth place scoring a 378 overall.

The highest overall (HOA) shooter for the team was Eli Waits in 11th place with a score of 127. Second was Mitch Marsh with a 126 and third was Joseph Anderson with a score of 125.

In skeet, Anderson finished fourth overall among 121 shooters with a score of 49. He had a 25 his first round and a 24 in the second round. Next was Marsh and Waits with 47 followed by Zach Sanders at 44.

In sporting clays, the top shooters were Waits and Sanders with a score of 80 putting them in 13th place. Marsh had a 79 while Anderson had a score of 76.

Anne Marie Hildebrant was the second highest female shooter with a score of 116.

The Cougars will compete again Saturday, Oct. 1, at Ocmulgee River Gun Club.

The Clay Crushing Cougars are led by head coach Brian Marsh, and assistant coaches Tim Chapko, Alison Hildebrant and Stacy Waits.
