James Curtis Pope

James Curtis Pope, age 65, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016, at his residence.

Curtis Pope was a lifelong resident of Jasper County. His parents were the late Curtis Lorin Pope and Emma Leola Vining Pope. Before retirement, he worked as a logger for Pope Brothers Logging Company.

Curtis loved fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Aubrey Pope.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Ann Rutherford Pope of Monticello; children, James (Lisa) Pope of Monticello and Kelly (Frank) Johnson of Covington; grandchildren, Jesse Pope, Abby Pope, Audreanna Pope, Jace Pope, Deallon McCullum, Dakoda McCullum, Katelyn McCullum, Ashley McCullum, Jedidiah Johnson and Josiah Johnson; great-granddaughter, Adalea Pope; and brother and sister, Buddy Haley and Betty Ann Edwards of Eatonton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, 2016, at the chapel of Jordan Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Eatonton. Ronald Linch will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be B. J. Wages, Maylon Wages, Lonnie “Bubba” Pope, Luke Jackson, Franklin Hulsey, Gabe Stone, Jacob Pope and Sammy Strickland.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016, at Jordan Funeral Home.
