MS Lady Cougars Defeat Briarwood
Piedmont Academy’s Middle School softball team scored eight runs in the first inning on its way to a 15-3 victory against Briarwood Academy on Aug. 23.
In a balanced offensive attack, the Lady Cougars had a 3-for-4 performance at the plate from Fleming Sealy, who also scored two runs and drove in three. Hannah Tyler, Maddie Waddleton and Rebekah Hicks each had two hits in the win. Tyler also scored three runs and drove in one while Waddleton had an RBI. Hicks scored two runs and drove in two.
Abby Arnold was 1-for-1 at the plate with an RBI and Sydney Stroud scored two runs. MaLynne Webb finished 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI while Savanna Taylor was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Katie Mathews scored a run and Harris Brady drew a walk.
Sealy and Arnold both pitched two innings. Sealy had three strikeouts while Arnold finished with four.
“We played a good all-around game,” said coach Cameron Vaughn. “We played exceptionally well on offense and also played a good game defensively.”
On Monday, the Middle School team fell to John Milledge 5-1.
“We had a better game against John Milledge this time around,” Vaughn said. “We played a tough game. We just couldn’t get the offense going to gain runs.”
Tyler was 1-for-2 to lead Piedmont offensively.
Sealy pitched three innings Monday recording three strikeouts and walking one.
