MS Canes & Cougars To Square Off

Piedmont Academy’s Middle School softball team saw game action for the first time in 2016 against Briarwood on the road Tuesday.

The Lady Cougars held a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning when the game was called due to weather conditions. Fleming Sealy pitched three innings for Piedmont and recorded three strikeouts. Emily McEwen worked one inning and had one strikeout.

Offensively, Sealy was 1-for-2 with an RBI and Ma-Lynne Webb was 1-for-2 with a double. Hannah Tyler, Savanna Taylor, Harris Brady, Sydney Stroud and Rebekah Hicks all drew walks.

Piedmont trailed 2-0 after the first inning before taking the lead by scoring three runs in the top of the third. Briarwood tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth inning before the Lady Cougars moved back in front with a run in the top of the fifth before action was called.

Piedmont’s Middle School team will play Monticello today, August 11 at 5 p.m. at the Jasper County Recreation Department. The Lady Cougars will then travel to Windsor Tuesday for a 4 p.m. contest.
