Gloria McMullen Montjoy

Gloria McMullen Montjoy, age 80, who resided in Macon, Ga. passed away Monday, July 18, 2016 at Coliseum Medical Centers, Macon.

Mrs. Montjoy grew up in Monticello, Ga. Her parents were the late Adlene Smith McMullen and James W. McMullen. After graduation from Monticello High School, she attended Mercer University and became a registered nurse. While there she met and married Paul Montjoy, who was attending Mercer Law School. His law practice took them to the Greenville, S.C. area where she distinguished herself in the field of occupational health care. She also began farming, which she continued for 20 years.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Montjoy and daughter Paula returned to Monticello where she did volunteer work for the Care Corps and Red Cross and did substitute teaching at Piedmont Academy. She also completed degrees in political science and public administration at Georgia College. Later she returned to her career in nursing, retiring at the age of 78.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband and her sister, Sandra McCullers. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Eric Williams.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, in the chapel of Monticello First United Methodist Church. Interment will be held in West View Cemetery. Rev. John Brown will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2016, at Jordan Funeral Home.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Monticello First United Methodist Church 651 College Street, Monticello, Georgia 31064; or to the American Red Cross.

Jordan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
