Early Voting Starts Tuesday

Early voting for the run-off election for Jasper County’s Chief Magistrate begins next Tuesday, July 5, and absentee ballots are now available.

Three people were vying for the Chief Magistrate post in the primary in May, and no one received more than 50 percent of the vote, necessitating a run-off between Tim Lam and Angie Steele.

Anyone who was registered to vote by April 26 is eligible to vote in this run-off whether they voted in the primary or not.

Early voting continues weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., until July 22. Election day is Tuesday, July 26, at the polls when they will be open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

So far 113 absentee ballots have been requested and about half of those are already back in, said Chief Registrar Carole Norris. If a voter is not sure of his or her voting status, check with the registrar’s office in the Courthouse, 706-468-4908.
