Jimmie Elige Snowden, Jr.

Jimmie Elige Snowden, Jr., age 83, of Monticello, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2016, at his residence.

Jimmie Snowden, Jr. was born in Leesburg, Fla., to the late Jimmie Elige Snowden, Sr. and Leona Jane Tinch Snowden. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Jimmie Snowden “Snowman” lived in Woodstock for a number of years before moving to Monticello 28 years ago. He attended Smithboro Baptist Church. Before retirement, he worked in commercial and residential construction; and owned and operated Snowden Construction.

He loved to hunt, fish, garden and watch sports; especially, baseball and football. He was an avid Florida Gators fan.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, whom he called “mom”, Alder Flora Moody Snowden; son, Danny Lee Snowden; granddaughter, Tosha Snowden; and sisters, Mary Jean Snowden, Cora Lee Williams, Betty Ann Hicks and Ann Fitzler.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Fay Stowers Snowden of Monticello; children, Janice L. (Darwin) Singletary and Johnny Snowden of Kennesaw, Timmy M. Snowden of San Leandro, Calif., Tracy R. (Joe) Noe and Jimmie E. (Debbie) Snowden, III, of Eatonton, and Chris S. (Tami) Snowden of Monticello; grandchildren, Tonya, Bryan, David, Mandy, Billie Joe “BJ”, Keisha, Nicholas, Samantha “Sam”, Jamie and Eric; 12 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and sisters, Louise (Dave) Davis and Rachel (Gene) McQuaig of Dothan, Ala., and Carolyn Aldridge of Florida.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 11, 2016, at Smithboro Baptist Church. Interment will be held in Smithboro Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Carlos Stowers will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Jimmy Snowden, III, Joe Noe, Chris Snowden, Johnny Snowden, David Snowden, Mark Smith, and Terry Law.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, June 10, 2016, at Jordan Funeral Home.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers donations to one’s favorite charity.
