Marie Goolsby Tillman

Marie Goolsby Tillman, age 96, of Hillsboro, passed away Thursday, May 26, 2016, at Jasper Memorial Hospital.

Marie Tillman was born in the Union Hill Community of Jones County on February 12, 1920, to the late Thomas Harrison Goolsby and Sudy Freeman Goolsby. She was a 1938 graduate of Jones County High School where she played basketball.

Marie Tillman married the late John Taylor “J.T.” Tillman and moved to Hillsboro where she has lived in the home place for 74 years. She was a member of Hillsboro Baptist Church and sang in the choir for many years. She was a founding parent of Piedmont Academy. She could play the piano by ear. She loved her family and loved to cook for them; and there will never be another strawberry cake like Nanny’s. She enjoyed spending time with and caring for her grandchildren, farming and watching her hummingbirds.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Becky Tillman; grandchildren, Ken Tillman, Meredith Tillman, and Amber Marazio; and two sisters and six brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Gayle (Ronnie) Marsh of Hillsboro; and sons, Kenneth (Pat) Tillman, Floyd Tillman, and Ronnie (Kathy) Tillman of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Brian (Tanya) Marsh, Lee Marsh, Lori Wilkes, Mallette (Bubba) Wilson, Anne Marie Morstad, Debbie Farrell, Kelly (Scott) McCoy, Adam Mills, Edye (Larry) Johnson, Becca Mills and Heather Mills; great- grandchildren, Remington Marsh, Mitch Marsh, Elizabeth Marsh, Greta Wilkes, Becky Leigh Wilson, Taylor Jo Wilson, Braxton Wilson, Lincoln Goode, Langston Morstad, Michelle Farrell, John Ashley Tillman, Aimee Tillman, Joey Marazio, Samantha Marazio, Kenedy Johnson and Kaden Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Myah Bell and Kloe Mills; and brother and sister, Bennie (Mary Etta Heath) Goolsby of Gray and Sarah Sammons of Harker Heights, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2016, at Hillsboro Baptist Church in Hillsboro. Interment will be held in Sunshine United Methodist Church Cemetery in Round Oak. Rev. Len Woodard will officiate.

Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Marsh, Lee Marsh, Mitch Marsh, Bubba Wilson, Adam Mills, Tony Fullerton and Billy Goolsby.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m., Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Hillsboro Baptist Church in Hillsboro.
